The client faces the problem of weak Internet connection in certain locations, so we needed to develop a solution for minimizing the external Internet connection usage in the areas which suffer from low Internet quality and simultaneously enhancing the performance of the application for them.
The main challenge of the project lay in finding a way to synchronize the courses (mainly videos, SCORMs and other large files) despite slow Internet connection, as well as serving them from local NASes (instead of using AWS) and eventually making them accessible for 40,000 users around the globe.
Our team implemented customizations of the e-learning platform for Comcast employees. The system consists of two major user modules: for administrators and for learners.
The module for administrators allows creating and managing courses, adding/removing students, assigning and checking tasks, collecting statistics etc. The other module for learners allows browsing available courses, getting notifications about due mandatory courses, undertaking courses, passing tests and quizzes, tracking progress etc.
For the client’s business units using local NASes, we developed a NAS Drive application that synchronizes contents from local NASes with data from AWS on a daily basis. The solution required a lot of DevOps customizations, but in the end, we managed to ensure a smooth learning experience even for users from the areas with a weak Internet connection.
We implemented the catalogue of courses and an easy course builder which allows creating content for courses from scratch as well as re-using existing materials (PDF, video-audio, HTML5, articles, quizzes, images etc.) and homework. Our scorm courses uploader supports the latest compliant SCORM cloud and Tin Can xAPI industry standards for content interoperability.
